Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid played out another typically battling Madrid derby on Saturday, with both sides not being able to be separated by the time the full time whistle came.
Los Blancos youngster Alvaro Rodriguez cancelled out Jose Maria Gimenez’s opener for Atleti, but the big talking point of the match was the red card given to Angel Correa just after the hour mark.
The Argentine was involved in an off-the-ball incident with Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger, and referee Jesus Gil Marzano opted to dismiss the Los Rojiblancos player, which VAR confirmed after a check.
A straight red card for Angel Correa who just came on as a half time substitute and was deemed to have elbowed Rudiger by the referee 🟥

Atleti were left furious at the decision, and perhaps unsurprisingly, they will appeal to La Liga in order to have the suspension cancelled, according to MD.
If the red card is upheld, Correa would be banned for two league matches. He would miss Atletico Madrid’s fixtures against Sevilla at the Metropolitano and the trip to Girona the following week.
